Job Summary:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and proficient Accountant with a robust understanding of Canadian accounting practices and advanced data science skills. The successful candidate will play a key role in implementing and optimizing the Purchase Order (PO) process, managing accounting coding systems, and conducting thorough reconciliations. This position requires a strategic mindset, strong data manipulation capabilities, and a commitment to ensuring accuracy and compliance in financial processes.

Responsibilities:

Financial Accounting:

Ensure accuracy and compliance with Canadian accounting standards in day-to-day financial transactions.
Prepare comprehensive financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
Data Analysis and Manipulation:

Utilize advanced data science techniques to analyze large datasets and derive actionable insights.
Implement data-driven models to optimize financial processes, with a focus on the Purchase Order workflow.
Purchase Order Process and Accounting Coding:

Lead the implementation and management of the Purchase Order (PO) process, collaborating with procurement and other departments.
Develop and maintain efficient accounting coding systems to track and allocate expenses accurately.
Reconciliation of Spreadsheets:

Conduct regular reconciliations of financial data, including bank statements, accounts payable, and accounts receivable.
Investigate and resolve discrepancies through collaboration with relevant departments, leveraging data science for automation.
Budgeting and Forecasting:

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and maintain budgets, providing data-driven insights for forecasting.
Analyze variances between actual financial results and budgeted/forecasted figures.
Compliance and Reporting:

Stay abreast of changes in Canadian accounting regulations, ensuring compliance with relevant standards.
Prepare and submit accurate and timely financial reports to regulatory bodies and stakeholders.
Technology Integration:

Leverage advanced accounting software and data science tools to enhance financial reporting and analysis.
Collaborate with IT teams to integrate financial and data systems for seamless information flow.
Strategic Advisory:

Provide strategic insights based on data analysis to support decision-making at operational and executive levels.
Continuous Improvement:

Identify opportunities for process improvement within the finance and accounting functions.
Propose and implement innovative solutions to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Data Science, or a related field.
Professional accounting designation (e.g., CPA) preferred.
Proven experience in accounting roles, with a strong understanding of Canadian accounting practices.
Advanced proficiency in data science tools and programming languages (e.g., Python, R, SQL).
Hands-on experience in implementing and managing Purchase Order processes.
Proficient in creating and maintaining accounting coding systems.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate data into actionable insights.
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present complex data findings to non-technical stakeholders.
